Amy's Trendvision 2018 Exposé

Trend Vision Expose

A feature looking at our stylist Amy( @hairbyamykins)

Everything starts with a thought…..a picture in your mind…..a voice in your head…….

The difference is some people ignore these influences…. while others listen and act on it.

That is exactly what happened when Amy decided to listen, capture, and create from all of the images and ideas that were flowing through her creative hair veins.

For quite some time Amy has known she wants more from her hair talents and believes hair competitions provide that little something extra she feels that she has been directed towards.

Like any artist Amy took out her sketch book and started to get her ideas on paper.  Indeed from this effort a vision for a new colour collection and placement was born.  "Now what", she thought.  Then the answer came…. Wella's 2018 TrendVision was launching and its open to all competitors.  Amy decided to act and enter!!

We spoke with our Wella sales rep, Courtney Studiman, and colour educator, Stephanie Johnson for ideas, suggestions, information, and they both felt  compelled that Amy needed to go to the mentoring workshop at Vidal Sassoon in Toronto. So within a couple of days it was organized that Amy would bring her model,  Kelsea, and head to the big city of TO.

These two ladies trained to Toronto on a Saturday afternoon and got immersed into a whole new hair world of professional photographers, make-up artists, wardrobe consultants and hair gurus. They left exhausted but yet when arriving home at around midnight on that Monday, Amy actually felt exhilarated by this experience !

Amy captured the seminar as an “inspiring growth opportunity”.  She was impressed by the passionate mentoring by @yvonnewella  @mirellathehairwhisperer  to name a few and the support that was offered at every stage of the creative process.   The level of organization at this workshop made a very comfortable environment to create in.  Amy said the mentor’s desire for your personal success is so apparent.

Before the individuals got down to actually colouring, cutting, and picking out wardrobes for their models and finishing with a photo shoot, everyone attended a seminar that reinforced the trends for each season.

Here is Amy’s take away from this seminar

Spring/summer trend

“Nontouring”

  • Colour is used like a filter to add warmth, even to cool tones
  • Trendy colors are turned into the softest versions of themselves.Making them more earthy and neutral
  • Soft colours are used to soften hard lines, add blended shines lines and diffuse and blend other shades of colour in the hair

Fall winter/trend

“Pure Chroma”

  • Intentional use of one color family to create a monochromatic evolution of Nontouring
  • Blended harmony with depth
  • Red, blue, black are on focus, played with, within their own colour families to create bolder but blended harmonious shades
