Does Having My Hair Trimmed Actually Make It Grow Faster?

Trimming your hair doesn't affect the follicles in your scalp, which determine how fast and how much your hair grows. While growing out your hair takes time, there are a few things you can do to help your hair grow faster.

Hair grows on average ¼-½ inch in a month. Trimming your hair won’t necessarily speed up the hair growth process, but it should still be trimmed every 10-12 weeks. Regular haircuts will keep hair healthy by getting rid of any damaged, broken, or split ends. Hair will grow faster when it is strong and healthy.

Eating certain foods can also help accelerate the hair growth process. Foods that may contribute to faster growing hair include: salmon, yellow peppers, oysters, eggs, sunflower seeds, sweet potatoes, avocados and almonds. These foods have high concentrations of essential fatty acids and other vitamins and nutrients that keep your scalp healthy and strengthen hair shaft and follicles for optimal growth.

Even though trimming will not actually make your hair grow faster, keeping hair healthy through regular trims can help fast track hair growth.
